Sharpening the ax.

Abraham Lincoln once acclaimed, “Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the ax.” Now, it may be weird to compare a study abroad journey to the sharpening of an ax. But hear me out - President Lincoln makes a very solid and valid point. He speaks of spending a vast amount of time in preparation before engaging in action. Likewise, so too should one indulge in thorough research, adequate planning, and personal readiness when preparing for a study abroad experience.
Sharpening axes surely is a tiring and cumbersome task; it requires much energy, focus, determination, and strength. This, similarly, is what is needed when planning to embark on an educational opportunity of a lifetime. The planning process of studying abroad also requires much energy, focus, determination, and strength.
Not to worry - under this pre-departure section, I will be navigating through the journey to the ultimate journey itself, and what I’ve done to sharpen my ax. I’ve listed 3 steps (technically 4) that details all that I needed to complete when planning my study abroad experiences. They are:
